As our Shandong tour guide Kevin would say, “Today we had a wonderful day.”
Some of us woke up early to work out at the hotel gym, while others stayed in bed. Breakfast was served on the 37th floor, and aside from the amazing food options, our breakfast was complimented with an incredible bird’s eye view of Jinan.
After breakfast, we headed to the Alishan Senior Home. Upon our arrival, we were greeted very warmly by the nurses and the administrators who led us to the second floor. We greeted the seniors, who were already seated, as well as Officer Wang Lidong, whom we previously met at our dinner with government officials.
David, an executive member of our group, helped translate the senior home’s welcome message. We then proceeded to do their morning exercise routine with them, and afterward, prepared for our own performances. We had two acts – one was the singing Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin (The Moon Represents My Heart), specifically Yoona’s remix version, and a fan dance to Tian Mi Mi, both by Teresa Tang. The seniors were very fascinated by our performances.
Afterwards, we toured the senior home and saw the garden that the seniors took care of. They grew tomatoes, lettuce, hot peppers, Chinese broccoli and many other types of vegetables. One of the participants took the challenge of eating a chilli pepper, and then suffered severely after. It was a hilarious moment for everyone but him.
After the senior home, the group had an early lunch at a Hong Kong Style restaurant. The restaurant here served Canton food which everyone seemed to love. We then headed towards the bullet train station for a trip to Xi’An, home of the Terracotta warriors. I personally was very grateful for the seven-hour train ride because I was able to sleep off my the cold I’ve had since the beginning of the trip.
